About rain Schools SA20
THE NEXT GENERATION OF CRICKET IS HERE
In September 2024, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and SA20 launched Schools SA20, designed to uncover and nurture cricket boys and girls talent across South Africa.
rain Schools SA20, the premium South African schools' T20 competition, marked a new milestone for cricket in the country. The competition was designed to identify and cultivate future stars in a fun and competitive environment, ensuring broad participation from schools across the nation, including hubs, focus schools, and traditional institutions. The aim is to showcase South Africa's cricket talent, create pathways into professional cricket, and grow both the player and fan base for years to come.
The inaugural Volume 1 champions were Bishops Diocesan College (boys) and Steyn City School (girls).
Volume 2 of the competition took place from August 2025 to March 2026 with 561 boys and girls teams nationwide competing for the coveted title of Schools SA20 champions. Ultimately, after the three phases Jeppe High School for Boys (boys) and Queens High School (girls) emerged as the new champions.

THE FORMAT
rain Schools SA20 takes place in three phases:
Phase 1: Provincial (September - November)
Each of the 16 Cricket South Africa members will run boys and girls tournaments, using either straight knockout or round robin format. In the boys' division, two boys teams from each member will progress to the next phase. Meanwhile, only the winning girls team from each member will progress to the next phase.
The 16 members are:
- Boland
- Border
- Central Gauteng Lions
- Eastern Province
- Easterns
- Free State
- Kei
- KwaZulu-Natal Coastal
- KwaZulu-Natal Inland
- Limpopo
- Mpumalanga
- Northern Cape
- North West
- South Western Districts
- Titans
- Western Province
Phase 2: Regional (January - February)
The 48 teams (32 boys and 16 girls) will compete to become their region's winner. The original 16 members will be clustered into 6 regions, namely:
- Western Cape (Western Province, Boland and South Western Districts)
- Eastern Cape (Eastern Province, Border and Kei)
- KwaZulu-Natal (KwaZulu-Natal Coastal and KwaZulu-Natal Inland)
- Gauteng 1 (Titans, Easterns and Limpopo)
- Gauteng 2 (Central Gauteng Lions and Mpumalanga)
- Central (North West, Free State and Northern Cape)
Phase 3: National Finals (March)
The Finals sees 8 boys and 6 girls teams compete to become the rain Schools SA20 national champions.
In the boys finals tournament, the 6 regional winners will be joined by one of Cricket South Africa's Focus Schools and the other team will be a Cricket South Africa Hub Invitational XI. The girls champion will come from the 6 regional winners.
