In focus: Hougaard’s record 157 powers Reddam House into WP final
Emily Hougaard struck the highest known score by a girl in a rain Schools SA20 match as Reddam House Constantia beat hosts Victoria Hub by 158 runs in the Western Province girls semifinal on Friday.
The semifinal was one Phase 1 of the competition's feature matches, broadcast live on DStv Channel 216 and the visitors largely stole the spotlight.
Sent in after Victoria Hub won the toss at Chukker Road Sports Complex, Reddam House lost Kayla Copeland early - bowled for 4. Her opening partner Hougaard then took charge. She carried her bat for 157 not out off 66 balls, with 22 fours and three sixes. It was her third century of the 2026-27 season - including one in round 1 of the competition. Hougaard and Isobel Lear (40 off 34, 2x4) put on 159 for the third wicket before the latter was run out, and Reddam finished on 263 for 4 from their 20 overs.

Victoria Hub didn't help their cause, giving away 40 extras, 28 of them wides while their ground-fielding also showed their rustiness having had two byes through to this stage. Captain Zaurah Titus was the pick of the home attack with 2 for 34.
Titus also led the chase. Her 58 off 48 balls took Victoria Hub to 59 before the first wicket fell. Once she was run out by Copeland, the innings was already on it's way to collapse - in fact, Victoria lost their last nine wickets for 44 runs to be bowled out for 105 in 18.5 overs.
Jessica Hendricks took 4 for 22 and Abigail French and Jennalee Simpson took two wickets each. Sally Gitlin returned 1 for 8 from three overs. Their exploits, however, paled compared to Hougaard's record-setting knock.
Reddam House will now await the winner of the second semifinal between Hoërskool Stellenberg and Helderberg Hub in the final set for 6 November at Vineyard Oval, Newlands.
