WYNBERG BOYS' HIGH DUO NAMED IN CSA U19 EMERGING TEAM
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced a 15-player squad to represent CSA Under-19 Emerging Men in a five-match 50-over series against Zimbabwe, scheduled from 20 - 29 September at the Queens Sport Club in Bulawayo.
This tour is part of CSA’s ongoing commitment to nurturing and developing young cricketing talent in preparation for future tournaments, including the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2026.
Under the guidance of SA Under-19 head coach Malibongwe Maketa, the tour will provide the selected group of 16- and 17-year-old players with an invaluable opportunity to gain experience in high-pressure match situations against competitive opposition.
The squad will get together for a three-day camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from 15- 17 September, ahead of their departure on 18 September.
Wynberg Boys’ High School - alma mater of SA20 stars such as Kyle Verreynne (Pretoria Capitals), David Bedingham (Sunrisers Eastern Cape) and Jason Smith (Durban’s Super Giants) - have the biggest representation in top-order batter Paul James and Luke Kleinsmith.
Hoërskool Noordheuwel fast bowler JJ Basson has been in good form recently, taking 5/13 against Bishops at the St Davids Marist Inanda Time Festival in Johannesburg.
Basson will now, however, team up with Bishops Diocesan College’s prolific wicketkeeper-batter Adnaan Lagadien on tour to Zimbabwe.
Jason Rowles from St David's Marist Inanda also expressed his excitement about being called up to the CSA U19 Emerging squad.
“I am really excited about being selected to the SA U19 Emerging team. It’s a big privilege and honour to play for my country and I can’t wait,” Rowles said.
