ST ANDREW'S SCHOOL EMERGE AS FREE STATE WINNERS
St Andrew's took on Grey College in the Free State Schools SA20 Final on Sunday, 27 October at their Vossie's Field and made home ground advantage count.
Grey, who had won the team's previous clash this year, won the toss and opted to batted first. Opener Peter Smit, with a 39-ball 56, anchored the Grey innings with further contributions coming from Aiden Dodd (22 off 30 balls) and River Scott (21 off 13) helping them set a competitive 144/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Left-arm quick, Jonathan Hickley (3/11) was the pick of the St Andrew's bowlers with right-armer Cullen Kakora (3/27) supporting him in restricting the visitors.
In reply, St Andrew's started steadily as they set upon the target off 145. The foundation for their chase was set by middle-order batter FG Botha, with a 39-ball 57, while his partnership Heindre Serfontein (33 off 31) was his key before Johan Liebenberg (21 not out off 16) carried St Andrew's home, by 5 wickets, with two overs to spare.
Right-arm fast bowler, Otto Krause (3/19) did his best for Grey, who tried to halt momentum with many bowling changes, but St Andrew's were too strong. Nonetheless, both teams are progressing to Phase 2 where they will compete against the boys from Hoërskool Rustenburg and Potchefstroom Gimnasium (representing North West) and still-to-be-determined qualifiers from Northern Cape.

St Andrew's players and coaches pose with their school flag to celebrate progressing through to Phase 2 of Schools SA20, after beating Grey College.
