Aaron Senekal and Josh Wilkie each scored centuries as Selborne College claimed the Schools SA20 Border title with a comprehensive 111-run victory over Queen's College.

The home team's openers filled their boots against a Queen's bowling line-up who could not stem the tide of 10-run plus overs. Wilkie was the initial aggressor bringing up his century off 55 balls before Senekal upped the ante too.

The pair looked set on carrying their bat through the 20 overs before Wilkie was run out for 117 (63 balls) trying to get Senekal back on strike in the final over. Senekal duly brought up his ton too, and finished with an unbeaten 107 (58 balls) as Selborne amassed 239/1 in their innings.

Queen's began their turn to bat with the required intent but left-arm quick, Bungqina Nuku (3/17) pegged them bag with the wickets of Ross Fitzhenry (5 off 6), newly-appointed 2025 Head Prefect, Aiden van Jaarsveld (26 off 15), and Duncan Hayes (11 off 13). Queen's were on the back foot on 55/3 straight after the Powerplay.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals as the Selborne spinners, including leggie Joel Hattingh (3/25), tightened the screw and the required run-rate crept up. A late cameo from Rowan Miles (44 off 36) added respectability to Queen's score and they made Selborne wait until the final ball before being all out for 128.

The consolation for Queen's is that they will advance to Phase 2 of the Schools SA20 competition, set to be played in January-February 2025 where they will come face to face with the corresponding finalists from Eastern Province and Kei (Mqanduli Village Junior Secondary School and Jumba Senior Secondary School).
