MARAIS VILJOEN AND ST BENEDICT’S THE TEAMS TO BEAT IN EASTERNS?
Following the launch of Schools SA20 taking place earlier on Monday, 2 September Easterns’ boys teams are the first to get action officially underway in the new era of schools cricket.
With 12 teams entered from the region, divided into two groups of six, the round robin action is set to run over five weeks before the semifinals (top two in each group) and Final take place from 15-18 October at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
The groupings are:
1: Actonville Hub, Alberton High School, Benoni High School, Duduza Hub, Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen, Hoërskool Marais Viljoen.
2: Die Anker Skool, Hoërskool Dinamika, Hoërskool Jeugland, Hoërskool Kempton Park, Kwa-Thema Hub, St Benedict’s College.
Considering Marais Viljoen (5, including SA U19 star Dewan Marais) and St Benedict’s (4) dominated the Easterns squad for the 2023 Khaya Majola Cricket Week they would be favoured to emerge from their group, if not claim the region’s two spots for boys teams in Phase 2 of Schools SA20. If they live up to their billing, two other semifinal spots will be up for grabs too, at which stage a single incredible performance could be all it takes to upstage the favourites.
As it happens, in Round 3, two matches from their region will be streamed live on the SuperSport Schools – an opportune time to gauge the relative strengths of Marais Viljoen away at Dr EG Jansen in Boksburg (11 September) and St Benedict’s two days later when they travel to Kempton Park.
