LIONS GIRLS UP NEXT AS SCHOOLS SA20 CONTINUES TO BLOOM

The second week of September ushers in the arrival of Schools SA20 in another region, as the Central Gauteng Lions girls division gets underway.

Eight teams are in the running for the single spot available for Phase 2 and will be whittled down by virtue of straight knockout, starting on Tuesday, 10 September. The schools who have entered include Steyn City School, Northcliff High School, Hoërskool Noordheuwel, Queens High School and Hoërskool Riebeeckrand.

Meanwhile, South Hub (covering Ennerdale, Lenasia, Eldorado Park and Orange Farm) and Soweto Hub are also in contention, as is the Khutsong Rhinos Cricket Club girls team from close to the North West border.

Considering recent Proteas Women’s cap Karabo Meso, as well as national Under-19 training squad members, Diara Ramlakan and Jenna-Lee Lubbe all hail from Steyn City School they may well be considered the favourites to win CGL’s tournament.

Nonetheless, Queens High School in the inner city are a Cricket South Africa Focus School and thus have a strong programme going and by their nature the hubs draw the best of the best from their constituent areas so an intriguing few weeks await.

The division will also benefit from having matches streamed from the get go; both the Queens vs Riebeeckrand and Steyn City vs South Hub are scheduled to be streamed live on the SuperSport Schools App.
