KEMPTON PARK BOYS EARN EASTERNS BRAGGING RIGHTS WITH ST BENEDICT'S WIN IN FINAL

Hoërskool Kempton Park are Easterns' Schools SA20 boys division winners after edging St Benedict's College by 29 runs in their final played on Friday, 18 October.

It is the second time 'Kempies' have got the better of St Benedict's after a convincing nine-wicket win in their group clash in mid-September.

The eventual winners had first use of the deck at Benoni Northerns and Sheldon Kruger was the mainstay of their innings. The in-form batter top-scored with 78 off 49 balls (six 6s, three 4s) as Kempton Park compiled a highly-competitive 194/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Their were also significant contributions from opener Wian Pieters (41) and Stian de Villiers (47 not out) while Russel Jones (2/23) and Matthew Elphick (2/17) were the pick of St Benedict's bowlers.

Faced with a stiff total to chase, 'Bennies' found themselves on the back foot immediately with the second-ball departure of Cayden Thompson. However, useful contributions from Matt Feiertag (43), captain Clayton Horlick (40) and Marco Mendes (31) provided impetus.

Alex Johnston, who top-scored with 44 runs from 31 balls, kept St Benedict's hopes alive but Pieters (2/20) and Kotze (1/17) kept the pressure on for Kempies. By the close of their 20 overs, St Benedict's only managed 165/5 to fall 29 runs short but their consolation is that they will join Kempton Park in Phase 2 where they will come up against the finalists from both Titans (Final on 6 November) and Limpopo (Final on 30 October).
