CHATSWORTH HUB EMERGE AS QUEENS OF KWAZULU-NATAL COASTAL
Following an absorbing Switch Schools SA20 Volume 2 ‘Feature Day’ at Kloof High School, Chatsworth Hub have emerged as the new queens of KwaZulu-Natal Coastal.
Chatsworth Hub and KCCD Hub met in the final to decide who would claim the province’s place in Phase 2 of the competition. Having won the toss, Chatsworth captain Shreeyah Subbiah put KCCD in to bat confident in her team’s ability to chase down whatever the girls from Richards Bay and surrounds set.

It was a slow start for KCCD as opening bowlers Sihana Naidu (2/7 in 4) and Aadya Mohun (2/9 in 3.4) kept things tight.
Indeed, it was only when change bowlers Sayurie Govender and Hope Govender came on that boundaries began coming. Almost exclusively that was off the bat of Amanda Shandu (36 off 35, 4x4) who anchored the KCCD innings. She received some support from the middle-order duo of Angelo Mlambo (12 off 18, 1x4) and Noxolo Biyela (15 off 14, 2x4) but once the trio departed one after the other the KCCD innings tailed off.
Subbiah (2/21 off 4 overs) and Anastacia Pillay (2/9 off 2 overs) did the main middle-order damage as KCCD were bowled out for 101 with two balls of their allotted 20 overs remaining.
Chatsworth then set about the score with gusto with their star openers, Subbiah (32 off 21, 6x4) and Thando Matamela going at 10-plus runs to the over initially. Even KCCD’s star bowler, Biyela (0/35 off 3), who claimed 6/6 in their semifinal earlier in the day, was comfortably dealt with.
As it happened, it was only when Lonathemba Mncwango (2/15 off 4 overs) trapped Subbiah LBW and bowled Mohana Rugnath (2 off 5 balls) that the scoring eased off, slightly.
However, Matamela was still in full-flow and deservedly hit the winning runs in the 12th over which also brought up her 50 off 35 balls which included nine 4s – cueing enthusiastic celebrations from her teammates clad in white. Chatsworth Hub will have to wait to see who emerges as KwaZulu-Natal Inland’s winners and they will meet in January 2026 to determine the regional winners and a place in the National Finals scheduled for late February 2026.
Earlier, Chatsworth ended Dr JL Dube High School’s hope of defending their provincial crown when they handed them a 10-wicket defeat. Dr JL Dube were kept to 94/4 in their allotted 20 overs before Subbiah (56 not out) and Matamela (34 not out) put together an unbroken 98-run partnership.
In the other semifinal, Nqabakazulu High School (Dr JL Dube’s near neighbours in KwaMashu) were bowled out for just 58 by KCCD Hub in 15.1 overs, with Noxolo Biyela producing incredible figures of 6/6 in her 4 overs. KCCD’s batters were a little jittery but ultimately secured a final place with a five-wicket victory.
PLAYER OF THE DAY
Shreeya Subbiah (Chatsworth Hub)
Chatsworth’s captain and star all-rounder, Shreeya Subbiah just pipped her teammate Thando Matamela to the star of the day honours. Subbiah scored 88 runs and claimed 3 wickets while her astute leadership proved key as Chatsworth comfortably overcame Dr JL Dube High School and KCCD Hub on an action-packed day at Kloof High School. No wonder, the Westville Girls’ High School student has already attended SA Under-19 women’s camps.
