SCHOOLS SA20 GIRLS DIVISION SET TO SPARK BANTER AMONG PROTEAS WOMEN

The inclusion of a girls division in the Schools SA20 competition will no doubt be a boon for the game in the country, and likely spark banter within the Proteas Women squad too.

Of the 16 contracted Proteas Women, seven players will be able to follow their alma mater’s girls team during Schools SA20.

For experienced batter Suné Luus and allrounder Delmi Tucker that will be Titans powerhouses Die Hoërskool Menlopark, which they both attended. Their interest should be even further piqued, and messages flying on the Proteas’s WhatsApp group, on 1 October when Menlopark face Hoërskool Zwartkop, where young pace bowler Eliz-Mari Marx matriculated in 2021.

Meanwhile, Anneke Bosch and Sinalo Jafta will hold fingers that their old schools, Hoërskool Grens and Striling High School respectively, win through to the East London regional final, to cue a battle for bragging rights between the two Proteas.

Marizanne Kapp (Hoërskool DF Malherbe, Eastern Province) and Tazmin Brits (Hoërskool Klerksdorp, North West) will also have interest in how vested interests in Schools SA20 girls division, even if there won’t be a derby for them to rib a national teammate about.
