HS KALAHARI, HS UPINGTON AND KURUMAN HUB COMPLETE SCHOOLS SA20 PHASE 2 LINE-UP
The Schools SA20 Phase 2 line-up is finalised, with Northern Cape completing their qualifiers on Monday.
The two days of playoffs took place across Kimberley, and at its conclusion Hoërskool Kalahari from Kuruman and Hoërskool Upington will join 30 other boys teams and Kuruman Hub are the 16th and final girls team through to Phase 2.
Kalahari earned their place in the final following quarter- and semifinal wins over Hoërskool De Aar and Hoërskool Diamantveld, while Upington beat Hoërskool Noord-Kaap and Frank Roro Hub respectively.
In the final itself, played The Country Club B-Field down the road from the showpiece Diamond Oval, Kalahari batted first and scored 150/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
The total proved too steep for Upington, who managed only 113/6, handing Kalahari the province’s bragging rights by 37 runs.

At the same time, the girls final between Kuruman Hub and St Patrick’s CBC was taking place across town at the latter’s home ground.
Kuruman, who had won their round-robin fixture, batted first and reached 69 before being bowled out in 17.1 overs. With a place in Phase 2 up for grabs, an intriguing run chase was in the offing.
St Patrick’s, unfortunately for them, couldn’t make home ground advantage count and were bowled out for 52 – with two overs remaining – to lose by 17 runs.
Kuruman’s victory, means they are one of six girls hub teams (and nine overall) who have reached the second phase of Schools SA20.
