24 Jan 20264 mins

Hoër Tegniese Skool Drostdy produced a devastating all-round performance to defeat Bridgton Hub in the Switch Schools SA20 Phase 2 Western Cape Girls Final at Somerset College’s main Taberer Field, sealing qualification for the national finals at the University of Pretoria from 4–7 March 2026.

The Western Cape phase brought together Boland’s Drostdy, South Western Districts representatives Bridgton Hub, and Western Province winners Hoërskool Stellenberg. Both finalists had already made their mark earlier in the tournament, each defeating Stellenberg in their respective group matches. Notably, Drostdy had beaten Bridgton by 37 runs in their earlier clash, with senior provincial player Daneli Boshoff starring with 62 off 46 balls and 4/15 in three overs. In the final, however, it was an entirely different Drostdy bowling trio that stole the show.

Batting first in the winner-takes-all decider, Bridgton endured a nightmare start and never recovered. They were bowled out for just 25 in 9.2 overs as Drostdy’s attack ran riot. Mi-Jeanne Botha (7 off 9 balls) top-scored with the bat but Extras (10) actually contribute the most to Bridgton's score as sustained resistance proved impossible.

Lize de Waal led the demolition with a sensational spell of 4/8 in four overs, combining accuracy and movement to rip through the top order. Linique Luck was equally destructive, claiming 4/5 in three overs in a display of relentless precision. Mia-Lize van der Vyver added to the collapse with 1/0 in just 0.2 overs as wickets tumbled in clusters.

Chasing a modest target of 26, Drostdy approached the task calmly and efficiently. They reached 26/1 in just 2.6 overs, wrapping up the contest inside three overs. De Waal capped a superb match with an unbeaten 10 off 11 balls (1x4), while Van der Vyver struck 8 not out from 9 deliveries (1x4).

The emphatic victory underlined Drostdy’s dominance in the region and confirmed their status as Western Cape champions. With momentum firmly on their side, they now turn their attention to the national finals in Pretoria, where they will look to carry this ruthless form onto the biggest stage.
