STEYN CITY STAR KARABO MESO HEADED TO ICC WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

In a major milestone for Schools SA20, 17-year-old Karabo Meso of Steyn City School has earned a place in the senior Proteas women’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which begins on September 30 in India and Sri Lanka.

Meso’s selection caps off a sensational rise through the domestic pipeline, with her standout performances at the Schools SA20 Final Showdown sealing her status as one of the country’s brightest young stars. The wicketkeeper-batter dominated the girls’ tournament, walking away with both the Player of the Tournament and Batter of the Tournament awards.

Her defining moment came in the Final at Tuks Oval, where she delivered a commanding 117* against Saints Christian School (the only century of the tournament, boys and girls), leading her side with composure and class in the pressure-filled showpiece match of the inaugural competition.

Renowned for her clean glove work and fearless stroke play, Meso's inclusion is a nod to both her talent and the early success of the Schools SA20 competition in nurturing elite youth prospects. Still 17 (18 on 18 September), she becomes one of the youngest players ever selected for a South African senior World Cup squad, and fans will be eager to see her make her mark on the world stage.
