Chatsworth Hub set the tone as KZN Coastal girls Round 1 delivers Volume 3's first century

KwaZulu-Natal Coastal girls division got underway for Schools SA20 Volume 3 on 25 and 26 August 2026, and defending champions Chatsworth Hub wasted no time reminding the division why they start the season as the team to beat - though it was a losing batter who produced the first round's headline performance.

Chatsworth, with the majority of their title-winning 2025-26 squad still available, not least South Africa Under-19 contender Shreeya Subbiah, opened their campaign against Scottburgh High School - alma mater of Proteas allrounder Chloé Tryon - at Chatsworth Oval. Chatsworth's bowlers reduced Scottburgh to just 58/9 off their 20 overs, and Subbiah and co raced to the target in a mere 5 overs to seal a commanding 9-wicket win.

The individual performance of the round, though, belonged to Umlazi Hub's Yamkela Shange, who struck the province's first century of the season - a stunning 115 off 70 balls, studded with 19 fours and four sixes. As it happened, It came in a losing cause: Reservoir Hills Hub's 176/3, with Ntombifuthi Nkomo unbeaten on 76 off 62 balls, edged Umlazi out by just five runs in a genuine run-fest.

Elsewhere, the quarterfinal picture began to take shape. Kloof High School eased to a 9-wicket win over Outer West Hub, Hope Govender's superb 4/7 off four overs the standout display. King Cetshwayo Cricket District (KCCD) Hub and Mtubatuba Hub also booked their quarterfinal spots, seeing off Felixton College by 10 wickets and Grantleigh High School by 29 runs (via DLS) respectively. Ashton International College Ballito and Umlazi Comtech, a Cricket South Africa Focus School, advance to the last eight courtesy of first-round byes and INK Hub's A team beat out their second-stringers.

One round in, and the province has already produced a statement win from the champions, a maiden century, and a queue of contenders serving early notice that Chatsworth's title defense will not go unchallenged.
