KwaZulu-Natal Coastal 'big six' lie in wait for prelims' best

The KwaZulu-Natal Coastal boys Volume 3 action gets underway on Tuesday, 18 August 2026 with the ‘big six’ spared the pressure of preliminaries – a dreaded word for matric students up-and-down the country at this time of year.

Yes, Clifton College, Durban High School, Glenwood High School, Kearsney College, Northwood School (Volume 1 winners and Volume 2 runners-up) and Westville Boys’ High School (the province’s defending champions) have all received byes through to the Round of 16 – and will hope not to get caught cold when that comes around in mid-September.

In the interim, 18 teams will be vying to secure their own passage.

Among them are the likes of Ashton International College Ballito, near-neighbours Felixton College (Empangeni) and Grantleigh High School (Richards Bay), the Upper Highway quartet of Curro Hillcrest, Hillcrest High School, Kloof High School and Thomas More College, as well as Reddam House Umhlanga and Hoërskool Suid-Natal from Port Shepstone. (As it happened, Suid-Natal and Grantleigh progressed furthest in Volume 2 - falling to Clifton and Northwood respectively in the quarterfinals.)

Included in the mix too are the Cricket South Africa Hub teams from Chatsworth, iLembe, INK (Inanda, Ntuzuma, KwaMashu), King Cetshwayo Cricket District - KCCD, Mtubatuba, Reservoir Hills, Umlazi and Umzinto.

Umlazi Comtech, meanwhile, will be seen in the Round of 16 as they are slated for progression as a Cricket South Africa Focus School. Their preliminary match against Reservoir Hills Hub is thus a ‘free’ hit-out for both as the loser will also get another shot at glory.
